KEENHOUSE & Remixes

Who is Keenhouse? Is it a person, a collective, a musical reference? Can it be defined? The beginning of the answer lies with one man, Ken Rangkuty. Keenhouse produces music that can best be described as a hybrid. It’s music with organic roots yet synthesized parts, making producer Ken Rangkuty somewhat of a musical scientist. From two opposing musical ideas, the music of Keenhouse is musical evolution. The songs do not lie in the realm of present day pop nor could they be classified as traditional electronica. The music consists of elements from the past as well as elements from the present. To Ken, this kind of music is the future. Born of German descent, this half German, half Indonesian producer began his production career at the age of 14. Coming of age in Germany, Ken was directly influenced by electronica music, specifically focusing on the post rave scene in Hamburg and Berlin’s darker techno scene. As a young producer, both the striving, funkier Brokenbeat of the UK as well as the downbeat and Nu Jazz scenes in Germany heavily influenced Ken. Underground German labels such as Sonar collective and South Germany’s Compost Label also gave inspiration.
Yet, even though Ken had a vibrant musical scene at his fingertips in Germany, he knew as a child that he would one day move to the United States.
